I'm feeling nervous. I am committing to Pawns of Fate this month. I'm not nervous about the comic of course, I think my artwork can hold its own, and the story means a lot to me. My nerves come from my ignorance of internet comics in general, and the business side. I know I have a lot to learn in all aspects (art, pace, story, etc.)
I am putting the first issue up all at once to garner interest, and then aiming for a twice a week update of two pages. I'm not sure this is the right way to do it. My limited experience shows this is more than most people do, but I have one hundred plus pages done, so feel I can keep up with this. My concern is the physical placement. I plan to do the two pages stacked on one web page. That means a lot of web pages, and Weebly does have a max. My thoughts are to give Pawns of Fate its own page, and link it from this main page. <Shrug> I really have no idea how others do it on the nuts and bolts. This will be a learning experience. Bear with me, and share opinions.
The usual fears are about. Will people like it? Will they get the humor? Will they find something to root for in the characters? Is it paced right? Etc etc.
I know some successful comics make it on ads, some on patrons etc. My plan is to offer it free and place a donation button. I hope this isn't a faux pas, but I've seen others do it. Long term I will color it and offer Print on Demand versions if I can get any kind of a fan base. Which is my greatest worry. I know almost nothing about marketing this, and my understanding of social media is limited. I suspect a lot of stumbling and bumbling in the future, and certainly will listen to any advice.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. You will find the link to the comic's site on the Pawns of Fate page. It should be active by April 9th.
