Who is Edward Myst...
As you can see by these pages, I've been involved in the table-top gaming hobby for a long time. I am a historian, and started wargaming as a teenager. I bought my first 40k miniatures in the nineties, when Warhammer 40k was Rogue Trader (that set of 30 space marines for 29$! I still have them too!) Boy were those the good old days! Anyway, I have collected armies from various games since, although I have focused on GW products as that was most popular in my group.
I have always had some artistic skill, although I chose a different career path out of high school, and majored in history. I never stopped collecting, converting and painting, and now, after more than a decade as a professor, I am returning to art.
I tend to gravitate to the underdog, being more interested in tactics and well built armies than herohammer. That means I currently collect Wood Elves, Goblins (no orks, all goblins and NO fanatics, talk about a challenge!), and The Empire in fantasy armies. For 40k, it's Sisters of Battle (just sisters, not Witchunters) and Imperial Guard (I know...they changed the name, but they are still the IG to me). I have forces for Eldar, Space marines (black Templars) and Tyranids, but have never found the interest to grow them into full armies. My group uses the counts as rules, so a lot of my wood elves are non-GW minis. My Sister's are my favorite, and have been to Gamesday twice a decade or so ago.
I've been told by more than just my friends I should paint, convert and sell, so I am finally giving it a go. I hope you like what you see. Be aware I always convert and paint miniatures to be used in a game, not for a trophy case, so some of the advanced techniques I don't bother with. (Although I am in no way knocking them, or talking about the incredible skill level involved.) NMM for example, looks incredible and is amazing, but not for gameplay. Same with source lighting on mini's. Unbelievable for a diorama, just doesn't work on tabletop stuff. I mean, what happens when two of them are next to each other...and it looks like the sun is in two different places?
In any case, I consider myself what I call a 95% painter. That means I feel I am better than 95% of people who play the game, but the top 5% of painters still amaze me. I work mostly in Citadel paints if it matters. Yes, expensive and I hate it, but they are good quality for what I do.
My taste runs to fantasy artwork, which is the genre of Pawns of Fate, as well as Wind Warrior. I am self-taught, generally from how to draw comics and such, so I know my style is more illustration than art. I work almost exclusively in pencils and colored pencils, having neither the experience nor supplies to paint on canvas. I have only recently begun to dabble with a computer draw pad (an old thinkpad...) and am slowly gaining ability.
Look around, make comments, ask questions! I take commissions on miniatures and illustrations, and hope to have my comic and books up and available soon. Most of what you see is on Ebay, or available. Have fun, I certainly have while creating all this, and come back often as I am constantly changing and updating.
