Firesap
My sculpt of Firesap has its basis in Bluefeather. I imagine Firesap as Bluefeather's rebellious daughter. She lacks Bluefeather's age and wisdom, and is more emotional. Invaders make her furious, and it shows in her expression and “Don't mess with me” stance. She isn't experienced enough to be trusted to raise and protect a treant like her mother. Instead she hangs around with a wayward and rascally pixie named Stingnettle, for her favorite blowgun ammunition.
I sculpted Firesap to look like she is in midst of switching from tree to dryad form. I probably found the face the most troublesome. It came out slightly wider than I wish, but the detail on the eyes (I actually hollowed out sockets, then came back later and inserted eyes) and her ears came out exactly as I wished. Her loin cloth is from an eldar figue, and I sculpted a tiny set of rings stretching around her waist to hold it on. Hopefully you can see it in some of the later stage photos.
Stingnettle is built on the wings from a ripper bit that came with a Hive Tyrant. I shaved the ripper down, keeping only its tail to be one leg, and the wings. Then I sculpted a tiny pixie body. It wasn't easy, and the details will show up better when she is painted. She is magnetized to the base, so can be removed as a wound counter. I have decided to add a blowgun to Stingnettle, so that will be coming soon.
I learn new things every time I sculpt, and admire those who do it more and more!
(Note, I toyed with giving Firesap a weeping willow look, with hanging leaves that draped around her face, but decided to save them for my next sculpt. So look for it in a few weeks.)
