FAQ answers:
This is an attempt to answer the most common questions I get. It is universal and not focused on one aspect of my art. I will try to keep it categorized. If you have a question that isn't answered here, send it!
About me:
Why Edward Myst?
It's silly, but I just think it sounds cool, and using a pen name seemed wise.
How old are you, where are you, are you married, etc.
I'm old, I live in Dreamland (just ask my junior high school lit teacher...), and I am not currently attached to anyone. Okay, I was born in the 70's, I live in California (everything about the weather being perfect is true, sadly, I live in the desert, where it's too hot!) I am currently unattached, but that's entirely my own fault.
How did you learn to write, etc...
The simple answer is in college as a history major with a lit minor. The complex answer is I am still learning, and I learn by reading everything I can.
How did you learn to draw?
Self-taught through How-to-draw-books of all natures, and a ton of practice. The adage about anyone who does something for 10,000 hours will master it, applies. Sadly, I'm still short of that 10k, but the journey is fun.
Where do your ideas come from?
My imagination. Yes, too simple, but that is the answer. I didn't realize how rare imagination was until I was in my thirties. I had it, and assumed everyone did. I spent my days with my mind whirling. Much of what I saw, read, heard, whatever, my brain would latch onto and begin crafting into other things. I don't know how else to explain it. As a Game Master in roleplaying, I never ran out of ideas, traps, NPC's. Whatever. My brain simply comes up with stuff.
Why do all this?
Simple answer, I love it. Creating makes me go. Some people get a rush from a roller coaster, I get it drawing or writing or painting. Why try to make a living at it? Well, I screwed my life up, and now have to start over. People make mistakes and poor choices, and that applies to me. So, here I go into the unknown...
Do you take commissions?
Yes!!! Send me a message (see link below)
As a teenager, which Charlie's Angels was it for you?
(Okay, I made this up, but it IS the question for my generation) And I liked the smart one. (you figure it out)
Favorite Comic book?
Elfquest, Alita, Appleseed, Ghost in the shell, on and on and on....
Favorite Anime
Give me Miyazaki!!! Lapuda:Castle in the Sky is the most amazing story ever. I also loved the Lupin movies. The Castle of Cagliostro changed my life and view of what animation could do (same with Robotech as brought to America). I love American animation too. Iron Giant, most Disney films, etc. I could go on, I won't.
